In the menu you will find Device Manager. In Device Manager check if you find Bluetooth Module and if found right-click on it and select un-install. The above steps should remove the Atheros Bluetooth suite completely from your computer.
Try the above steps and let us know the result. I am attempting to update an existing Win 7 to Win 8.
The Win 8 installer partially removed the Atheros Bluetooth suite. However, it then told me that I had to 'manually uninstall' it in order to continue. There is no longer any Atheros Bluetooth installation listed in 'Programs' list.
I cannot reinstall the Atheros with the goal of then manually uninstalling it. I am told that the 'Administrator' does not allow this operation (though I run the installer as 'Administrator'). Can you tell me how to manually uninstall all the components of the Atheros Bluetooth Suite or let me know some other way of uninstalling this in order to continue with the Win 8 upgrade?
I found a solution that worked for me. First, I uninstalled the application from within Control Panel --> Programs and Features. Then I rebooted computer into Safe Mode and moved the following directory off my computer entirely: C: Program Files (x86) Bluetooth Suite.
The computer has to be in Safe Mode otherwise three of the files won't move as they are loaded as processes and 'in use'. Restarted computer and launched the 'Install Windows 8' again and all was well.
I no longer saw the message to 'manually uninstall' Atheros Bluetooth Win7 Suite' and Windows 8 installed correctly. Interestingly, after the install was complete, I see the Bluetooth icon in my task bar again.
So apparently, Windows 8 'sees' my Bluetooth capabilities of my motherboard, but Atheros is no longer installed. I tried booting into safe mode to remove the Bluetooth files, too, but it was much more complicated than that because my new Dell XPS 8500 has the Atheros Bluetooth support bundled with the WLAN drivers. No amount of piecemeal 'uninstall's in Device Manager, or stopping the Atheros service and moving the files, were enough to prevent Atheros from being a showstopper for the Win 7 -> Win 8 Pro upgrade process. During ages of fiddling with those individual driver uninstalls, I discovered the following: 1.
In Programs and Features, the drivers don't show up as 'Atheros', or even 'Bluetooth'; they are listed under 'Dell WLAN and Bluetooth Installation'. Similarly, the 'Bluetooth Suite' folder is under 'C: Program Files (x86) Dell Wireless'. Right-clicking on the package in the program list gave the options Change and Uninstall. I selected Change, which then offered me Modify (select specific features for removal), Repair (reinstall in place), or Remove. , I thought, 'I'll just use Modify and get rid of only the Bluetooth part!' But no, Modify just did a complete reinstall of the whole thing, with no further choices offered. Eventually I came to the realization that I might have to uninstall the WiFi driver with it.
