Johannes Brahms: Lullaby or Wiegenlied - arranged for piano by Jim Paterson ' Lullaby is one of his best known pieces, heard frequently on television and on the music box toys of young children. The song comes from Johannes Brahms' Op.49 collection of 5 songs (or lieder), with this one being No.4 called Wiegenlied or Cradle Song. Some of Brahms' lyrics for Wiegenlied come from 'Des Knaben Wunderhorn' (Youth's Magic Horn) which is a collection of folk poems which have provided inspiration for many composers.
Produced by Phil Vinall and Haines, the album featured the singles 'Showgirl' and 'How I Could Be Wrong'. The album was well received on release, perceived as being part of a nascent Britpop scene, and was nominated in the second Mercury Music Prize in 1993 (won by Suede) and was in Q magazine's Top 10 Albums of 1993.
